Here's a sample of the newsletter from Mike's church (personal names and contact info have been edited out - for your reference, we list the contact person's email address and phone number):

THIS WEEKEND

Choir Retreat: The retreat is at Pine Valley Conference Center Saturday 9-4:30 for all adult choir members. Come, even if you didn’t sign up or for just part of the day. If you wish to car pool, be ready to leave the church parking lot at 8:30.

THIS SUNDAY

Sunday Service: Craig’s message will be “I Will…Because of Grace,” Grace Flows Down, #4. The adult choir will be singing. We will be welcoming new members.

Adult Sunday Bible Study: 9am in the Multi-purpose Room. The Sermon on The Mount - “Those Who are Peacemakers.”

No Middle School or High School Youth Meetings: The youth staff is at Youth Worker’s Convention.

2006 Church Directory Photos: Photos are being taken on the back lawn 9:45-10:40. See below & the bulletin insert for more information. If you want to have your photo taken but didn’t sign up, drop by the table to see if there is time for you.

Don’t Forget!! A Christmas Remembered: The CCC Christmas Party will be on Friday, 12/2 at 6:30pm, right here at church. It will be a fabulous evening to remember, with great food & lots of fun with your CCC friends & family. Tickets, $10, are for sale at the What’s Up Booth.

Covenant World Relief Banks: Covenant World Relief money from the past year was used to help tsunami, hurricane & earthquake victims, as well as build latrines, dig wells, sponsor a health clinic, rehab a school, distribute food & many other things. You’ll find labels & lids for soups cans to use for this year’s offering on the mission’s counter in the lobby. Bring your donations to church by 12/11.

2006 Church Directory Photos: Our goal is for everyone to have a new photo. They will have a new style as they will be taken on the lawn by the back parking lot. A professional photographer will be taking photos every Sunday through December 18th from 9:45-10:40am. There is a sign up sheet at the What’s Up Booth for you to choose your date. You will be sent a reminder. See the bulletin insert for information on how to dress, etc. You will have the opportunity to purchase your photo, but there is no obligation to purchase.

NEW! 2006 Proposed Budget: If you missed the Town Hall Meeting last Sunday, you’ll find the budget proposal in the What’s Up Booth. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mark Anderson or one of the elders before January 1st.

Lamb’s Players: Plan to celebrate Christmas with family & friends at Lamb’s Players new “Festival of Christmas” program on Friday, December 16, 8pm-$30 or Tuesday, December 20, 7:30pm-$22, Tickets go on Sale December 4th.

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Do you knit or crochet? Are you interested in using your talent to help others in need? We are looking for people interested in being part of a prayer shawl team. Please contact [edited]

Friday Help Needed: If you are looking for a way to serve the church and have time on Friday mornings, please join the bulletin crew @ 9:00 to put the bulletins together and to help the office with other jobs. You’ll be much appreciated and also have a chance to get to know some new friends. Please call the office 447-2675 to let us know you’re coming. Thanks!!

CCC Newsletter: Many of you have chosen to not receive the church newsletter to save us postage. If you would like a newsletter, we print extra copies each month which you can pick up at the What’s Up Booth.

Meals Ministry: We received a thank you from a family we helped after the Cedar Fire. Their house burned down and their son, who had to spend three months in the hospital, was born. Ladies from the church provided meals for several months and helped them through an incredibly hard time. If you would like to join this team by occasionally providing a simple meal for a family with a new baby or who has another need, please contact [edited]

Sermon Notes: If you would like to purchase a notebook for the sermon notes you’ll find them at the What’s Up Booth @ $2.00. If you didn’t get last week’s notes you’ll find them at the booth.

Recommended Reading: All are available at the What’s Up Booth.

  • NEW! Season of Life by Jeffrey Marx. This is a book geared to men. $10.
  • The Jesus Creed by Scot McKnight. This was named “Book of the Year for Christian Living” by the editors of “Christianity Today.” It offers material for reflection on Jesus & practical ways for loving God & others. $10
  • Don’t Waste Your Life by John Piper. The Sunday Adult Class is looking at this book. There are extra copies for those who may not be able to attend the class, but would like to read along. $10.
  • Serving as Senderes by Neal Pirolo. A book about how to relate to missionaries while they are preparing to go, on the field & when they return home. $4.

Covenant Missionary Prayer Calendar 2005/2006. Pick up your free copy, you’ll see someone you know on page 18.

What’s Up Booth: If you’re looking for more information of what is happening at CCC, want to sign up for an activity, purchase a Bible, notebook for sermon notes or a book, come to the What’s Up Booth on the back patio.

Prayer Ministry: Prayer is available immediately following each service on Sunday mornings for those who would like to receive this ministry of care from a member of our prayer team. You are welcome to remain after the service for prayer at the front of the sanctuary by the prayer garden, or use the prayer garden for personal prayer time.

NEW! Set Free Ministries’ Christmas Tree Lot: Help support East County homeless women & children. Purchase you Christmas Tree at the Set Free Ministries in the parking lot of Emma’s Restaurant (1523 E. Main Street, El Cajon. Right next to I-8). Proceeds will benefit their Family Restoration Program helping to restore the lives of broken families.

Faith Weavers: This Sunday we will be learning through the story of Isaac’s birth to rejoice in the Lord. Our memory verse is: Philippians 4:4. Make sure your child has a “take home ticket”.

Operation Christmas Child: We collected 15 boxes. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Care Package for Abby and Hattie: I thought it would be nice to stay in touch with the Frederiksen girls while they are in Kyrgyzstan for 2 years. Please bring in your items Sunday. Some ideas are games, arts and crafts or warm clothes.

12/4: 5th grade Lunch Club at Santee Lakes The first Sunday of each month after 2nd service the 5th graders are invited to bring a lunch and then go somewhere fun together. Parents sometimes needed to drive. Let Brenda know if your child can come.

NEW! Dec. 10: Kindergarten-5th grade Christmas Party: Sat. Lunch, craft, and games. Here’s an opportunity for parents to get some shopping done.

12/11: Children sing a Christmas song in church.

2/10-12/2006: Winter Camp at Indian Hills Camp is for 2nd-5th gr., cost is $105. I’ll start collecting the $25 deposit in December

NEW! Life Line Screening: They will be at Chapel of the Valley United Methodist, 1465 E. Madison Avenue, El Cajon Thursday, 11/15. They provide Stroke Screening/Carotid Artery, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening, Osteoporosis Screening & Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening. There is a charge for these services & you must pre-register. Pick up an orange flyer in the What’s Up Booth for more complete information. You can also look them up at www.lifelinescreening.com.
